Ted Cruz Is The Zodiac Killer?!?

But I Saw It On The Internet!! By Eric Power

The similarity is striking....! Ok no, not really.
I take back everything positive I've ever said about Ted Cruz. To think that he is so diabolical that he could actually be the Zodiac Killer, who started his murder spree in 1968, (some say as early as 1964) when Cruz was born in 1970. I mean, really, you just can't get any more evil than that! Killing people before you were even a twinkle in your Daddy's eye. I mean, isn't that the Republican way, after all??
Bad, Cruz, bad!!!

Okay, clearly, this story is preposterously and obviously false.
The pitiful part, though, is that 38% of Florida voters (I assume that this must have come to light during the Florida Primary season; I arrived to this party a tad bit late.) actually believed this salacious drivel to be true, or at least thought it to be possible. What's sadder still, is the fact that, in what I truly believe is the last, labored gasp of this country as we have known it, these are the absurd, idiotic trivialities that are being bandied about. This World News Weekly-style
The Batboy Saga. Ahh, The Newspaper of Record...
garbage is squeezing out the real debate issues, such as: who is actually more qualified to lead this country? Who has a firmer grasp on the genuine solutions of the massive, seemingly insurmountable problems of our nation?

This is not anti-Trump. Clearly, I'm still not a fan, (and will never be) but I'm past trying to convince people that he's not a viable candidate for the presidency. The only one who can separate his followers from Trump, is Trump. Not the news media, not Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, or Rush Limbaugh, and certainly not little ol' me. Trump, and only Trump, holds that power exclusively. It seems though, that no matter what he says or does, he's not in any danger of losing his supporters. But I suppose that this statement makes sense when I hear someone claim that they disagree with 80% of everything Trump says but "I'm voting for him because he will fight". I knew, at that moment, that there was no rational hope in swaying someone's opinion away from him. I'd have a far better chance of smashing a granite slab with my eyelashes. If I can't reach someone who has less than a quarter of commonality with someone, then there is zero chance of persuading someone who is 50% or more in agreement. You simply cannot separate a person from their emotion and their bond, no matter what logic and facts you present to them.

So Why Cruz?

The reason I've never liked Trump is because of the things HE SAYS and DOES, not what others say about him. In my eyes, his character flaws make him very untrustworthy. Especially for an office as crucially important as the Presidency of this nation. Conversely, it's why I like Ted Cruz. From the time he's been in the Senate, I have seen from him a stable pattern of promises made/promises kept that have left me with a very high opinion of the Texas senator. Wait...what?? A politician who does what he says he'll do? Somebody pinch me, I'm dreaming! Further research into his past, before his Senate term, has established him as a consistently conservative, constitutionally sound ally. He has a strong, proven record when it comes to religious liberty, the second amendment, and pro-life issues. He's a stoic
defender of the Constitution and my values, both of which I hold near and dear.  I have the utmost confidence that Senator Cruz would have been an inspired choice for correcting the wildly errant course of our country's path. His adherence to, and reverence for, our Constitution is the biggest draw to him; I've never wanted to vote for the personality of a candidate. With Cruz, I was finally able to vote clearly for the person who put the principles and values of the Founding Document of our country on a high pedestal. Unlike with past elections, I no longer had to settle for an allegiance to merely a man (or woman). Now, I could be assured that my vote went to someone who realized that they are only a small part of the vision and legacy of America. Someone who, instead of looking in some self-centered mirror and thinking that he alone can solve all of our problems, was looking past his own reflection, through a window to the future of our renewed nation. A future that is based on the Constitutional process, one that we've not seen in action in more than a century. A future that will take a team collaborating with We the People, not a king or a dictator ruling his hapless subjects. That's what a Cruz presidency would have looked like, in my opinion.

That's where I was in my decision, and obviously, not everyone was right alongside me on that path. His crushing loss in Indiana convinced Ted Cruz that there is no path to victory, leaving Donald Trump as the unofficial Republican nominee. Since then, Trump has earned enough delegates to be the official presumptive Republican nominee.

With the Democratic nominee almost certain to be Hillary Clinton, it presents me with Kevorkian's choice: voting for a gunshot to the head, or a good, healthy swig from a bottle of commercial strength Drano. Even if the choice were to be Bernie, that's clearly not a better choice, from my point of view.

Clear Choices

However, I do feel that a more honest contest for the presidency would have been a battle between Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz - the unabashed Socialist and the rock-solid Constitutionalist. A race between these two would tell us, in no uncertain terms, which direction our country is choosing to move towards. Of course, the fact that a Socialist has garnered as much national support as Sanders has, and that a brash, loudmouth reality-show star has basically clinched the Republican nomination speaks volumes as to the direction our country. (Here's a hint: imagine looking at your feet while standing on the precipice of the Hoover Dam.) However, as much as I fundamentally disagree with Sanders, I respect him. He has the fortitude to state what he believes and doesn't couch it in doublespeak and
pandering. I've never heard Sanders speak to a crowd in a black southern twang, or in a traditional southern accent, like Hillary has done before. He's just Bernie; as wrong as I think he is, there's no doubting which side of the political spectrum he plants his flag, because he proudly makes no bones about it.

Just The Facts, Ma'am

If you don't like Cruz, that's fine. But have a reason that's rooted in reality. Not because he looks like a member of the rock group Stryper, or because you think he wants to rule the world in a theocratic dictatorship as a 7 Mountains Dominionist, or that his father, Rafael Cruz, has been accused of having conspired with Lee Harvey Oswald before the Kennedy assassination. Or finally, that you think he's the Zodiac Killer!  For the love of Heaven, have some discernment. Have you ever heard the phrase, "Believe nothing of what you hear, and only half of what you see"? When it comes to the Internet, double...no wait, triple that. Then infinity squared +1...wait, better make that +2...you know, just to be safe.

Know who it is that you're voting for. Whether it's Trump, Clinton, Cruz, Kasich, Bush, Jindal, and yes, even Gilmore, you owe it to yourself and your country to find out all that you can about them. Research their (real) pros and cons. Then make your choice based on those facts and figures. Just be informed in your choice, that's all. If what your candidate says matches up with what he/she has done in the past, then you probably have a candidate you can rely on. But hey, the choices have already been made this time around. Once again, I'm a day late and a dollar short. Maybe good advice to keep in mind for 2020, right? You know, if there's still a country left after *another* four years of disastrous, incompetent "leadership", regardless of the winner  in November. I really have lost all hope at this point.

Anyway, thank you for reading and may God Bless us all, should we still deserve His mercy. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch some TV. I hear Ted Cruz is starring in The Munsters!
